Goderich--New Range Light.--In consequence of the building of the breakwater about 1,500 feet outside the piers forming the sides of the channel into Goderich, it has been found necessary to provide an additional light. This new back light stands on, the beach, 1,400 feet E. % S. from the front range lighthouse on the north pier, and 254 feét to the: north ward of: the north pier. The light-is a fixed ten Gene shown from a lantern hoisted on a mast, 68 feet above the south end level of the lake. The alignment of the red range light leads clear of the south end of the new breakwater. To enter Goderich harbor, the red range lights should be kept in one bearing E. 3% S. E. until within 700 feet of the front light, when the course should be changed so as to keep the front red light and the green light on the north pier sufficiently open to pass 25 to 100 feet south of both in the axis of the dredged channel. -- SOUTHAMPTON. The waterworks building is situated on the lake shore, about 100 feet back from the water's .edge, 1%4 mile southwestward from 'the south side of the mouth of Saugeen river. It is a rectangular yellowish brick building with a flat roof and an iron smokestack. The whistle rises from the roof of the building, and is 28 feet above the level of the lake. The storm signal mast at Southampton has been moved from High Street to the corner of High and Lake Streets, and is to the northeast of the Chantry Island harbor of refuge. Electric light night signals have been installed. -- : Blind River.--Since the range lights were established at Blind river, on the north shore of the North channel of Lake Huron, in 1900, the place has developed so that changes in the arrangement of aids to naviga- tion lave become necessary. The original mill and wharves at the mouth of the river are still in existence, being operated by Messrs. Dolsen and McEwan. A Government wharf has been built out from the extremity of Har- riette point. The trend of this wharf is SE. by E. % E. It is 460 feet long, with an L at the outer end on which a large storehouse is built. Messrs. Eddy Brothers & Company have built a sawmill with large wharves 600 feet west of the Government wharf, and have dredged a channel in to these wharves from deep water. The axis of this channel bears N. 54 E. From this channel to the head of the Government wharf the Dominion Government have dredged a channel, the axis of which bears SW. by S. -- As most of the steamers' calling at Blind river now use this new dredged channel it has been found necessary to re-arrange aids to nayiga- tion here as follows: : 1. A range of lights has been established to mark the axis of the chan- nel leading to the Eddy wharves. et The lights shown are fixed white electric lights, and should be visible 11 miles.
