H. M. Sloops OSWEGO and ONTARIO, 1755
Built at Oswego for service on Lake Ontario, they were the first British ships to appear on the Great Lakes. A noticeable feature of these and other early British lake ships was the extraordinary sail area which could be spread, if required, in proportion to the hull dimensions.
