OC ee ae MERICAN ship builders turned out a slightly larger tonnage in 1914 than in the previous year; the total was 270,962 tons, against 265,- 580 tons in 1913. A large proportion of the tonnage was for the government, in- cluding battleships, submarines and de- stroyers. Tonnage built on the Lakes and Pacific coast was light. Among the more notable vessels were the Cramp- huilt steamers Great Northern and Northern Pacific for service between the Pacific and Atlantic seaboards. The wheels are 12 feet 2 inches in diameter, with steel hubs and high class semi-steel blades. The com- pany is also making a full line of pat- terns for propellers for the freight ves- sels of The Canada Steamship Lines, Ltd., and a number of propellers for sundry boats are being repaired. They are also reboring and bushing the high pressure cylinder of the tug Harrison. The Kingsford Foundry & Machine Works, Oswego, N. Y., recently built and are now building the following marine boilers: Capt. A. R. Hinckley, Oswego, N. Y., compact marine boiler, for installation in steamer McCormick. Benj. -L.
