June, 1916 THE MARINE’ REVIEW 15 (Registered Under Act of Parliament) was established in the year of A. D. 1902. Primarily for the purpose of protecting SHIPMASTERS AND OFFICERS. It watches legislation that proposes to affect the Mercantile Marine. It has been instrumental in having Marine Court Inquiries constituted on a proper basis. It has aided in having Certificates of Masters and Officers returned to them where the same had been suspended or cancelled on improper evidence or lack of evidence; carrying the matter to the House of Lords in England when necessary. It has taken a keen interest in having the Life Saving Apparatus on board ship kept up-to-date where a parsimonious policy tended in an opposite direction. At the investigations incident to the Great Lakes Wrecks of November, 1913, the ASSOCIATION brought out many abuses that the Shipmaster is subject to; and yet, by reason of his being dependent was not in a position to correct. In short, the ASSOCIATION takes care of its Members by providing them with expert legal advice on all matters pertaining to the profession. It adjusts differences between Masters and Officers and their crew, as well as between them and the owner. THIS SEASON WILL BE THE BIGGEST AND BEST ON THE GREAT LAKES The annual fee for membership is only FIVE DOLLARS for Masters; and THREE DOLLARS for officers. All Canadian Masters and Officers are respectfully and earnestly requested to apply for Membership immediately. Do not wait until you have had a collision; until you have become involved in trouble. NOW IS THE TIME TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR CERTIFICATE. For blank form of application for Membership apply to The Canadian Mercantile Marine Association P. O. BOX 305 LONDON, CANADA N.
