The W. Grant Morden, the longest freighter on the Great Lakes was built in our yards. This vessel is 625 feet long, 32 feet deep, with 59 foot beam and has 38 hatches. The capacity of this leviathan of the lakes is 585,000 bushels of oats, or approximately 20 trains of 30 cars each. The construction is on the Isherwood System, consisting of longitudinal frames, with transverse sections of plate and angle, spaced every 12 feet. A Big Successful Job The steamer Noronic, the finest pas- senger steamer on the Great Lakes is another example showing the ability of our modern plant to handle large jobs. Our equipment includes 100 acres of ship yards; a solid concrete dry dock over 700 feet long; a fully equipped machine shop, boiler shop, pattern shop, foundry, joiner shop, forge, electrical and pipe shops.
