©) he Aneticen ahs ann Company Standard Type | Cargo Ship for Ocean | Service This type, modernized and improved from the original Norwegian Fredriksstad type, was adopted by the Emergency Fleet Cor- poration as a standard for lake built ships for ocean service. These vessels were suc- cessfully used by the U.S. Shipping Board for transporting cargoes to the Allied coun- tries as well as for the coastwise trade and for trading between Great Britain and France. The war has thoroughly proved this type most serviceable and practical. These ships are now handling the bulk of the coal trade from Chesapeake Bay to New England, and are extensively used in trans- ocean and coastwise service.
