Tak MARINE REVIEW October, 1920 HAM ILTON 5000 HP RS iS. S. “Edmore’’ Built by Skinner & Eddy Driven by Hamilton Engines No Ejight-Hour Day For Ship Engines Twenty-four hours a day for days and weeks on end! Slogging through heavy cross seas with the decks awash, or skimming over the glaring glass of the equatorial waters with a terrific heat in the engine room! Fighting through a storm—the engine racing madly when the stern is up and the propeller nears the surface; slowing down and battling with hundreds of extra tons of water when the ship’s nose lifts! It is a strenuous life. The engine must pass the test of endurance and absolute reliability over a long period; and then comes the big test of the storm, which seeks vainly for some hidden weakness in any part of an engine that is properly built.
