In June, the total was 8,066,117 net tons, a decrease of only 13,359 net tons when compared with shipments for June of last year of 8,079,476 net tons. Last month’s shipments are the lowest for a like period in the last seven years. Steamship Co., Inc. Record of Traffic Through Panama Canal In May, American vessels made a splen- did showing in handling cargo through the Panama canal. The following table shows that of 1,032,816 net tons of ship- ping using the canal, practically one- half was American. Of the 1,158,507 Atlantic to Pacific traffic Pacific to Atlantic traffic gross tons of cargo transported, 53 per cent was handled in American ships. In both the east and west bound trades, American ships showed a higher rate of revenue loading than the foreign ves- sels.
