The methods employed in establishing these standards were outlined in recent issues. The first set of standards _ established which are for the 502-foot passenger .ves- sels were published in Marine Review, January, 1923. The standards for the 535-foot passen- ger vessels and also for the large fléet of Hog Island type cargo vessels built by the American International Shipbuilding Corp., have been completed and are being ' used by the various operators as a méans of determining the efficiency of pérform- ance of the vessels. of this ‘class: which’ they are operating. : The 535-foot passenger, vessels have been subdivided into three classes and a set of performance curves developed’ for _ each class. ee These curves give'the miles per ton of fuel which the vessel should’ make at a given draft and speed’ with moderate weather ‘and average bottom conditions. — They do not, howevet, represent imprac-
