Why Anaconda Condenser Tubes Meet Severe Service Requirements Three principal factors govern the quality of condenser tubes: 1. Their Composition and the Quality of Raw Materials used. 2. The Physical Quality or Soundness of the Alloy. 3. The Strength and Stiffness of the Tubes. Practical experience and laboratory investigation have shown that of the present available commercial alloys, Admiralty Alloy (70% Copper, 29% Zinc, 1% Tin), is the composition best suited for Condenser Tubes which come in contact with salt water. In the manufacture of its condenser tubes The American Brass Company uses exclusively Anaconda Electrolytic Copper and Ana- conda Electrolytic Zinc, raw materials of the highest quality, the purity of each averaging above 99.90 per cent. To insure the soundness of the alloy, the metal in all stages of fabrication is carefully inspected for slivers and other defects, and the strength and stiffness of the tubes is controlled with equal care to insure the longest possible service. Anaconda Condenser Tubes are finished with a special low temperature anneal to remove all indica- tions of strain or deformation of structure due to drawing. ‘This practice as applied to condenser tubes was originated by The Ameri- can Brass Company. It is now demanded by engineers as a necessary requirement and has been generally adopted by condenser tube manufacturers. During the World War, when it was necessary to operate under pressure of quantity production, The American Brass Company, as the largest producer of Seamless Tubes, manufactured Admiralty | Condenser Tubes in great quantities, all of which easily passed the most rigid Government inspection tests. That this traditional qual- ity is being strictly maintained is evidenced by the fact that Anaconda Condenser Tubes successfully met the latest specifications adopted by the Shipping Board.
