MARINE REVIEW October, 1925 ™Contra-Propeller —brings these new advantages to ship operators... S. SANTORE, owned by the Ore Steamship Corpo- ration, was recently fitted with a Contra-Propeller. This vessel runs between Baltimore, Md., and Cruz Grande, Chile, in the ore trade. In the table below, the perform- ance of the Santore for the pre- ceding five voyages is summar- ized and compared with the vessel’s performance on the first voyage after the Contra-Propeller was installed. The saving in fuel due to the Contra-Propeller amounted to 846 barrels, despite the fact that the cargo was 521 tons greater. Ex- pressed in dollars, this fuel saving alone was approximately $1,700. The advantages of the Contra- Propeller—considerable savings in fuel oil, in this case sufficient to obviate re-fueling at the Canal on the return trip, increased speed, improved steering and elimination of vibration—are too great to neglect. Let us give you full in- formation about, this new device, vessels on which it is installed, and the results obtained. The Contra-Propeller is manufac- tured in the United States solely by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Ltd., under license from Th. Goldschmidt Corpora- tion, 15 William St., New York City, exclusive representatives for the United States and Canada. BETHLEHEM SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION, LTD., BETHLEHEM, PA. Offices: 25 Broadway, New York, City General Sales “ In addition to fuel economy, steering diagrams after in- stalling the Contra- Propeller show a remarkable gain in steering efficiency. S. S.
