Chatham, shown above, and her sister ships the Fairfax and Dorchester were built by the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry. Dock Company, Newport News, Va: for the Merchant and Miners Transportation Co., Baltimore, Md. Inset shows Sturtevant Engine Driven Forced Draft Blower. Years of Service HE three new steamships—Chatham, Fair- fax and Dorchester of the Merchant & Miners Transportation Co.—are equipped with all modern conveniences for safe and speedy passenger and freight transportation. The Merchant & Miners Transportation Co. is one of the oldest coastwise transportation companies and now has one of the largest fleets of new vessels in operation. In its seventy- five years of service it has endeavored to main- tain the best in transportation facilities. The Chatham, Fairfax and Dorchester are splendid examples of modern ship design and construction. The mechanical equipment including refrigerat- ing machinery, evaporators, condensers, forced Reflect Dependability draft blowers, pumps, generators and other apparatus is of the latest type. The Sturtevant Steel Plate Fans supply ample forced draft to the boilers. One fan is installed on each ship and is driven by two Sturtevant VS-7 Engines one on either side of the fan. Sturtevant, like the Merchant and Miners Transportation Company, through its long service has proved its dependability. With an experience of over 60 years in building reliable heating and ventilating and power plant equip- ment and a thorough knowledge of marine re- quirements, we are prepared to supply the proper kind of heating and ventilating and power plant equipment for your ships.
