The New Southern Pacific Liner “DEX Tee HE “DIXIE” was built by the Federal Ship Building & Dry Dock Company after designs by A. S. Hebble, and cost $2,400,000. She is 445 ft. long, 60 ft. beam, 8,100 gross tonnage, and burns oil to generate steam at 350 lbs. pressure and 140° F. superheat. The De Laval Turbines develop a maximum of 8,000 shaft horsepower when driving the propeller at 90 RPM through De Laval Double Reduction Gears, maintaining an average speed of 16 knots. De Laval Turbines and Gears are selected for this handsome vessel after the very successful results with De Laval Geared Turbines on “E] Coston” (ex “Bienville”) and “El Oceano,” both owned and operated by the same company. Submit specifications for your proposed vessel in order that our engineers may offer estimates and guarantees on De Laval propelling and auxiliary equipment. e Laval Steam Turbine Co.
