The hull 243 feet in length and 50 _ feet wide is built of very heavy scantlings and the shape at the bow and stern brings into use all the skill of the shipbuilder. Electric Motor—One, 3000 horsepower electric motor for driving the 30-inch centrifugal pump. Auxiliary Oil Engines—Two, 75 horsepower and one 7% horsepower, Fairbanks-Morse diesel engines. AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT Manufacturers of: Pumps—Worthington, Northern, LaBour Refrigeration—Brunswick-Kroeschell Electric Generators—General Electric Co. Thrust Bearings—Kingsbury Machine Works Cutter Head—Goodrich Cutless Bearing Oil Purifiers—Four, Sharples Specialty Fire Extinguishers—Lux System Anchors—Baldt Anchor Chain & Forge Corp. The dredge NEw JERSEY is said to be the largest diesel electric pipe line dredge so far built. It can deliver at a great distance through a 30-inch pipe line. Where land fills are to be made as for instance on the lake shore of Chicago a dredge of this power and capacity becomes an extremely valuable unit. The dredging pump has a 82-inch suction and 30- inch discharge and discharges material through a pipe line up to 12,000 feet distant. The pump is driven by a 3000 horsepower motor and the cutter which loosens the mate- rial is driven by a 300 horsepower motor. The digging range is 50 feet below water with a swing from side to side of 300 feet. MARINE REVIEW—April, 1928
