DESCRIPTION A steel steam ferry-_ boat for automobile and passenger service between Newport and Jamestown built by the Fore river plant of the Bethlehem Shipbuild- ing Corp. for the Jamestown Newport Ferry Co. The motive power is a 3-cylinder, triple expansion steam engine. Steam is sup- plied by two Almy marine watertube boil- ers. Coal is used as fuel. Propellers—Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corp. Fire Protection—Invincible Monitor Nozzle— 600 g.p.m. Electric Generators—General Electric Co. The ferry steamer, GOVERNOR CARR, was de- signed by Albert F. Hass, naval architect, New- port, R. I., for the Jamestown-Newport Ferry Co. and now operates between Jamestown and Newport, R. I., a distance of three miles, as an automobile ferry. This vessel is of the two- deck type. The main deck is used exclusively for automobiles and has a capacity of from 32 to 40 average size cars. There are four run- ways. Complete passenger accommodations are provided on the upper or salon deck. There are five transverse bulkheads dividing the hull into six watertight compartments.
