WHEELING STEEL CORPN MMINE TO MARKET “The M. S. Benwood’’—All Steel Twin Sternwheel Towboat recently completed for The Wheeling Steel Corporation. Length 149'-7", Beam 27', Depth Amidship 5'-6"'. Powered by two 240 H. P. Fairbanks-Morse Diesel engines. Fuel carrying capacity 9500 gallons; sufficient for 30 days operation. Specializing in Tow Boat Construction “WM. S. Benwood’’, is one of the most modern and completely equipped towboats afloat. It is a sister boat to the “‘Betty’’—and a third sister ship is now under construction at our Neville Island plant. Outstanding among the many advantages of this splendid craft is the twin sternwheel feature. Each wheel is driven separately by one of the 240 h.p. Diesel engines, or both may be simultaneously controlled. The result is extreme flexibility in maneuvering. Power to each sternwheel is delivered through a unit type special differential gear which has been de- veloped and patented by us in adapting Diesel power and the twin sternwheel principle to river boats. Since 1891 The Dravo Contracting Company has been identified with the development of inland waterways, the construction of docks and terminal equipment, towboats and barges. 258 vessels of va- rious types have been constructed by us during the past three years. Our Engineering Staff is ready at all times to consult with you. The Dravo Contracting Company Engineers - - Contractors Pittsburgh, Pa.
