American Steel-Ji Company if! all Wire rope is made by laying wires into strands and coiling the strands around a hemp or steel center which is saturated with a special lubricant. The rope lay- ing machine illustrated is of the vertical type, that is, the bobbins are arranged to revolve in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis. As the coils rotate around the central core, they are drawn upward through a fixed closing die by means of a large draw-off drum. The rope passes around this drum several times before it is finally coiled upon a reel. Rigid inspections follow each opera- tion in the production of our wire a. rope. And all finished rope is tested Illustration 1 shows the strands passing through the fixed an d re-tested to insure uniformity closing die. 2—The bobbins are mounted in frames which are maintained in one position to prevent axial twisting of the e strands. 3—The finished rope is coiled upon a reel which is of grade and construction. driven by the gearing of the machine.
