U.S. PUBLIC HEALTH New 100-ft. tug “Walter Wyman” is “Queen of the Quarantine Fleet” Utmost reliability and readiness to go into action at a moment’s notice under all conditions, are the rigid requirements of equipment used in the Quarantine Division of the U. S. Public Health Service. This service operates about 75 vessels— approximately 30 of which are Diesel propelled— and many of them with F-M Diesel Engines The degree of satisfaction that F-M Diesel units have given in the Quarantine Service is evidenced by the fact that the new 100-foot boarding tug just SERVICE uses many F-M Diesel cette completed, one of the most powerful tugs of the entire fleet, is Diesel-electric driven by two F-M 325-hp. Diesel engines. This tug is also equipped with F-M Diesel auxiliary units (see below). This preference for F-M Diesel Engines for a marine service is not difficult to understand. F-M Diesel Engines are simple . . in design and in construction. This simplicity demonstrates its value to owners in the unequalled degree with which F-M Diesel Engines meet the five fundamental requirements of Diesel power: (1) Unusual fuel economy; (2) Low labor cost of operation; (3) Low maintenance cost; (4) Utmost reliability; (5) Long life. Before you buy a Diesel engine—of any make—get the complete story of Fairbanks-Morse Diesels. The services of a Fairbanks- Morse engineer are at your disposal for consultation on power prob- lems. Literature mailed promptly on request. FAIRBANKS, MORSE & CO. Besides the main propul- sion machinery, the engine room also contains an auxiliary F-M air compressor - generator unit, consisting of 30-hp, F-M Diesel, direct connected to a 20 kw. 110 volt generator, and clutch connected to a 50 c.f.m. air compressor. A Fairbanks- Morse fire and bilge pump is also part of the engine room equipment. FAIRBANKS-MORS 1ese 8 TO engines ~~ 1400 HORSEPOWER 5661-OA27.394 MARINE REview—April, 1932
