Hanna coal and ore,dock at this port. -The.steamer Germanic, ore laden, went aground yester- day morning while bound up river, off the Wabash, dock. The season of the O. C. dock was opened yesterday. The machines were started up and commenced to load the steamer. Pathfinder. «The-big whaleback steamer Pathfinder while trying to make the O. C. dock yesterday afternoon ran aground, but was released by the tug: Bickhead. The SS. Nation, built by the Craig Ship Building Co., for the Boston Fruit .Co., of. Boston, will be ready to leave Toledo about Saturday for Boston, Mass., this is a very fine looking ship, and is a credit to the Craigs, Alvin Peters yesterday sold the lumber barge H. C. Sprague to John Ryder, of Detroit. . ‘The consideration is given.as $1. The Sprague is of 316 gross tons, 145 feet long, 30 fect beam and-8-feet depth.of hold. She was built in 1880 in South Rockwood, Mich.,- and rates’ Br. “Fyveryoné here looks for a brisk and prosperous season in marine circles, as soon as the tug strike is settled. For a time this afternoon it looked as though the situation was criti- cal for the company. Notice has been served on Buffalo canal. boat owners by the state superintendent of Public Works, that’ the Erie canal-will be opened:.for navigation on April 24, four days earlier than it was opened last year. Orders were received on cargoes for the loading of eleven canal boats to load with oats and corn. On these products the rate has been slightly increased. The “freight rate on oats is 234 cents, and on corn 3% cents per bushel. These rates are the same as. when navigation closed last fall. No new boats will be seen on the Erie canal this season, © unless they are put into service before navigation closes. Canal men say that not a boat has been built this year, and that the improvements have been exceptionally few., Only a moderate business season is expected. oo State’ Statutes—Limitations to Domestic »Vessels.— Rey.
