Photographs from the “Centennial” project by Chris Winters Right: The St. Marys Challenger was launched as the William P. Snyder for the Shenango Furnace Company of Pittsburgh, Pa. She is shown on the drydock at the Great Lakes Engineering Works prior to delivery in 1906. At 550-feet long and 56-feet wide, she was driven by a 1,600 s.h.p. triple-expansion steam engine and fitted-out with opulent guest accomodations.
