He will also show us the latest movie of the Lake Carrier's Ass'n. Capt.Inches is well able to speak on all phases of Great Lakes navigation for he has sailed since 1901. He became master of the SATURN in 1925, and in 1943 took command of the 621 ft. FRANK ARMSTRONG, which he sailed until his re- tirement a few years ago. Come, and invite your friends Our March meeting, to be held on the 29th at ‘the News, will feature Dr.Milo M.Quaife's paper "The Story of The YANTIC". KK KK KK KK OK KOK KK KK KK KKK KKK KK OK KK K KK KK OK OK SHIPS The two freighters of the International Harvester fleet, THE HARVESTER and THE INTERNATIONAL (ex WILLIAM H.WARNER) are being converted to oil burners at the Manitowoc shipyards. Rumors indicate that the KINGSTON and RAPIDS PRINCE may be withdrawn from service this winter. The PUT IN BAY may run excursions to Port Huron next summer. Regular service to Lake Michigan will be scheduled by D&C next year, according to reports. At the Collingwood yards,work is progressing on the new passenger ship NORGOMA, building for the Owen Sound - Dominion Transportation Co. This ship will replace the MANITOULIN (ex MODJESKA), built in Scotland in 1889. x ek eK kK WADE C. The Great Lakes News, founded by Gene Herman 35 years ago, BROWNE has been sold to Wade C,Browne, Mrs Herman announced on Jan- uary 12th. After the death of Mr.Herman a year ago (See DMH, v.2, n.6) the well-known Great Lakes Monthly was continued by a board consisting of Mrs Herman, her daughter, and Mr.Browne, with the latter as managing editor. The periodical will continue with Mr.Browne as publisher and editor, and Mr.Robert Wolf as advertising manager. Our Society knew and loved Gene Herman. We wish Mr.Browne all success in carrying on the work of the Great Lakes News and its esteemed founder. We are grateful too for the commendation and encouragement our organization has received in its pages.
