Our Society's list FLEET of members boasts six or seven ship owners, who between them, con- g troll more than a dozen Great Lakes ships. This season our fleet has two new additions, whose pictures we show in the adjoining colums. The Owen Sound-Dominion Transportation Co (see DMH, v.2,n.6 - Feb.'49) of which Mr.Ivor Wagner is President, is the proud possessor of the new liner NORGOMA, built last winter at Collingwood. Down on Lake Erie, a new direct service for tourists and morotists has been estab- lished by the Kelleys Island Boat Co.,of which our fellow member Capt.F.E.Hamilton is President. Thie year the line is served by the motorship WELCOME, which makes three round trips daily. "Everybody's WELCOME," says Capt.Hamilton. In future numbers we will describe and illustrate some of | the ships owned by other members of our Society, namely Messrs. Lee Miller, of Put In Bay, Henry Caulkins, Nicholas Constans, and T.J.McCarthy of Detroit. The vessel is expected to go into service next spring. Unconfirmed rumors say it will be named STATE OF MICHIGAN. Pittsburgh Steamship Co will add three more big ones next winter, 647 x 70 x 36. Two will be built at Lorain, and one at River Rouge. available in Conneaut Harbor turnbasin. Their length is determined by the space Bradley Transportation Co will add a 666 x 70 self-unloader, to be built at Manitowoc before 1952. The tug NEW MEXICO was sunk by the CALCITE in Cleveland Harbor early this month, and was eventually raised. There was no loss of life. Cause seems to have been a fouled cable. The Engineers' dredge BURTON is on sale for scrapping. The 211 foot barge N.L.WALLACE has been launched at Wilmington, Del. She will carry print paper for Life Magazine from Bucks- port, Me. to Chicago, via New State Barge Canal. Moran Towing & Transporta- tion Co. tugs will tow the barge. Contract for the new car ferry © for the C.& 0. - Pere Marquette service on Lake Michigan was awarded to the Christy Corporation, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Deepening of harbors at Kings- ville and Leamington, on Lake Erie, has been completed by the veteran Canadian sandsucker SIDNEY M (ex O'CONNOR DICK, ex RESTIGOUCHE, ex NEREUS).
