ANNOUNCEMENT: We will gather for our November meeting on Wednesday, November 22nd, at 8 P.M. in the Conference Room of the Detroit News Building, 615 W. Lafayette. We will have the honor of hearing a member of our Society speak on the sailing experiences of his Father. Our speaker will be Dr.Neil Morrison of Windsor, who will tell us the life story of Captain James D.Morrison of Port Arthur, as well as the ships of the Canadian Towing and Wrecking Co., of which Capt. Morrison was for many years manager. This program should appeal to all. Come, and invite your friends. Following Dr.Morrison's paper, the long awaited auction of the several volumes of Green's "Great Lakes Directory" will be held. These are the gift of Mrs.Marie Hale. There are some thirty volumes, ranging from the early Twenties to the Forties. If you are inter- ested, plan to attend and take part in the bidding. On December 13th we will meet again in the News Conference Room. This program will be put on by the Chesapeake and Ohio Rail- way, and will faature movies of their car ferry service. Similarly, the Midland Steamship Co. has ordered radar equipment for all its ships. Cleveland Cliffs' new freighter will be built at Toledo. Columbia Transportation has ordered a second large freighter. The Defoe yards at Bay City will build a 640 footer for Hutchinson, for delivery in the spring of 1952. The new Sarnia and Colonial Line freighter will be launched at Port Weller next month, and will be named SCOTT MISENER, in honor of the President and Gen. Manager of the line. Immediately after the launching, HULL #12, iaantieal in size with the MISENER, i.e. 660 x 68, will be laid down for the same owners. Wilson Transit has sold its 440 foot freighter FRANK E.TAPLIN (ex CHAS.W.KOTCHER) to Sullivan.
