Marine Historical Soriety OF DETROIT THE DETROIT MARINE HISTORIAN Volume 4, No.8 April, 1951 * OK OK K KOK ANNOUNCEMENT : Our Society's seventh Annual Dinner Meeting will be held on Thursday evening, April 26th, at the Edison Boat Club. Please take note of the change to Thursday, as was announced at the last meeting. Our speaker of the evening will be Captain Frank Becker of Detroit, owner and general mamager of the Becker Towing Company, whose topic is entitled "Experiences Around the Great Lakes." One of Detroit's best known and best liked shipmen, Captain Becker is a Nevy veteran of two wars, is past President and active member of the Propellor Club, one of the promoters of the International Tugboat Race, and a very active man in marine affairs. His recent appearance on television was very well received. His efforts, a few years back, in behalf of the "Save-the- Wolverine” movement will be gratefully remembered by all who love ships. Captain Frank's wealth of experience should be a source of much interest, information end entertainment for all of us. Plan now to attend, and invite your friénds. Let us make this meeting as great a success as we have had with our Annual Dinner Meetings in past years. Dinner will be served this year in the large room downstairs, at about 6:15, cafeteria style. The price will be $2.50. Tickets may be obtained before the meal from our Treasurer, Mr.Smith, and his assist- ants. At about 8:00 the meeting proper will get under way. The Edison Boat Club is located at the foot of Lycaste St. on the east side, and is on the property of the Detroit Edison Company's "Conners Creek" power plant. Those who drive may come directly to the club, where there is ample parking space, to which you will be directed. Those depending on public transportation should take the E.Jefferson car or bus to Lycaste. Every effort is being made to provide transportation from this corner to the Club. Those coming in cars, who have extra room, are asked to be on the lookout for any who may have come to the corner of Jefferson and Lycaste and give them a lift to the Club. Your cooperation is asked in promptly filling out the post- card enclosed herewith, and sending it to your Secretary, 2015 Dime Building, before Monday, April 23rd. Reservations by phone may be made by calling TOwnsend 6-4494 (Mr. or Mrs.Smith) before or on that date. We must know how many will be present in order to make proper plans.
