The ship will sail from the foot of Bates Street at 9 A.M. and will return to Detroit at 8 P.M. For several summers past our Society has sponsored these local boat trips, which have always been popular and have served to keep our group in con- tact during the vacation period. So, let us all plan to be together for the cruise on September lst, and invite your friends and acquaintances. No special prearragre,ents or commitments have been made with the company. Werely come to Bates Stweet and get your own ticket. We will endeavor to gather in one place after boarding the PUT IN BAY. Our eighth year officially opens with the meeting of Saturday afternoon and evening, September 8, at the Fort Malden Museum at Amherst- burg. Keep this date open. For the benefit of our out of town members and others who aid not attend the June meeting at Amherstburg, we give the result of the election for membership on the Advisory Council (for the three year period, 1951-1954): elected were Messrs. Thomas B.Dancey, John F.Miller, Oscar Gregoire, and Scott B.Worden, Jr. Five days later, On Tuesday, June 5th, the Advisory Council convened at the Egison Boat Club for the election of officers for the coming year. As your new President your officers unanimously selected Mr.John E.Poole, Assistant Principal and Instructor of Mechanical Draw- ing at Lincoln High School, Van Dyke, Mich. Mr.Poole is an outstanding, historian of steam and sail on the Great Lakes, and one of our Society’ 8 early members. Your Vice President, Jack Miller, your Treasurer, Ken Smith, and your Secretary, Bob Zeleznik, were unanimously reelected. Your past president, who will continue as your Editor of the Marine Historian, wishes to commend all for their cooperation and logal assistance. This characteristic of our Séciety, we trust will r with it always. At his request your Advisory éouncil has sontimase! the appointment of Mr.William A.McDonald of Detroit and Mr.John H.Bascom of Toronto, as Associate Bditors of your Detroit Marine Historian.
