Those of us who were fortunate enough to hear his talk before the Monroe County Historical Society on this subject last winter can recommend this as a "must" for you and your friends. Since those who attended our last meeting voted almost unani- mously in favor of the meeting place, we will meet again in the small auditorium (Room 311) of the Library Building at the University of Detroit. Elevator service to the third floor is now available. On January 23rd, we will gather for our first meeting in 1952, and once again our Vice President, Mr.Jack Miller, will present us with a selection of marine movies. KOR ROR OK OR KKK KOK OR OR OR ROK OR OK OK OR OR OR KOK OK OK OR OK OR OR OK ROK OK OK KOK SHIPS The GEORGE F.RAND has been floated and taken to Toledo for re- pairs following her collision with the HARVEY H.BROWN at Port Huron. The Rand's owners have started suit for half a million dollars in damages. The new JOHN G.MUNSON of the Bradley Fleet was launched at Manitowoc on November 28th. The first freighter to tie up for the winter at Cleveland was the MUNISING. The Hanna freighters EDWARD J.BERWIND and JOSEPH WOOD will have new side tanks installed this winter, while the WILLIAM D.CRAWFORD, also a Hanna boat, will get a new pilot house and reconstructed forward quarters. This latter job will be done by the Oldman Boiler Works at Buffalo. The last Canadian barge to pass the Soo, other than those in the pulpwood trade, was the COLLINGDOC, in tow of the PRINDOC, on November llth. The MANILA, towed by the WM.HOSFORD, on the same day, was the last American passage of a barge. The first of the three new Pittsburgh carriers, the PHILIP R.CLARKE, was succesfully launched at Lorain. The VACATIONLAND will undergo her euekes down cruise on December 6th, and shortly thereafter will be docked a the Veterans' Memorial for public inspection When contrary winds Lomond the water in the Rouge River recently the big TOM GIRDLER (ex LOUIS Mc- HENRY HOWE) was aground for a short time.
