Robert A.Zeleznik, Secretary. eK KK KK KEK KR KE KR KK KR KK KK KE KR KR KE KR RK HH KK KK EK SHIPS Colonial Steamships, Ltd. recently sold the canaller EASTON to the Iron Ore & Transportation Co.,Ltd. who will use her to carry supplies for the Labrador mines and the railroad connecting them with the St.Lawrence port of Seven Islands. Huron Transportation Co.has purchased the COASTAL DELEGATE, a Maritime Commission 325 ft Ci-M-AV1 type motorship, which will be converted for the cement trade and will be renamed PAUL H.TOWNSEND, in honor of the President of Huron Cement Co. The former Prescott-Ogdensburg ferry LEVIS has been sold to J.P.POrter &Co. The Cleveland Cliffs freighters WILLIAM G.MATHER, FRONTENAC and PONTIAC will be repowered this winter with DeLaval steam turbine engines rated at 5000 h.p. and Babcock and Wilcox oil fired boilers. These three will be the first large ships to have only one boiler in their power plant. The motorships CLEVELANDER and DETROITER have been sold and were taken to the coast before the winter closing of the Welland & St.Lawrence Canals. The tugs MARYLAND and OREGON of Great Lakes Towing are now being converted to to diesel drive, 1000 h.p. It is expected that the MARYLAND will be sta- tioned at Detroit and the OREGON at Duluth. We all remember the OREGON'S heroic try to win the tugboat races. The SIR JAMES DUNN, new flagship of Canada Steamship Lines, Ltd. (Similar in dimensions to COVERDALE and HOCH- ELAGA) has been launched at Port Arthur, and the IMPERIAL WOODBEND has likewise gone down the ways at Collingwood. IMPERIAL LEDUC is at Toledo for repairs following an explosion at Sarnia. It is expected that the Pittsburgher CASON J.CALLAWAY will be launched at the Rouge sometime in February. The new railway ferries for the Lake Michigan service of the Pere Marquette Division of the C.& 0,Ry will be named SPARTAN and BADGER in honor of Michigan State and U.of Wisconsin.
