SHIPS The C.& 0. car ferries on the river are having the blue and yellow insignia of the railroad painted on their stacks. Rumors indicate that they may have tthéfr names changed soon. The former T.H.BROWNING ( ex CORALIA) has been renamed L.D.BROWNING. The tanker PEGGY REINAUER has been purchased by Michigan Tenkers, Inc., and will operate on Lake Michigan. The Marathon Paper Mills, Ltd. of Canada is building a new canaller at the King ston yards of Canadian Shipbuilding, which will be ready in June. Similarly Canadian Vickers, Ltd.,Montreal is building a new canaller for Hall of Canada to replace the lost JOHN H.PRICE (DMH v.5,no.5). WELLINGTON KENT, also ea Canadian vessel, is being built for the Kent Line. The sandsuckers HYDRO and ROCKWOOD (ex TAY A.PEARSON, ex CORDOVA, ex MOREMACK, ex JESSE SPALDING, ex VINDAL, 1899) of the Kelley Island Lime & Transport Line have been converted to diesel power. Extensive hull repairs were also made this winter on the third unit of the line, KELLEY ISLAND. The barges BLACK RIVER and PIC RIVER of the Quebec & Ontario fleet, are being converted to motorships with diesel drive at Port Weller (See "Barges" in DMH v.5,no.3, Nov.'51). The new CASON J.CALLAWAY was launched at the Rouge, March 22. The SCOTT MISENER opened the Soo Locks on April 2, while the W.F.WHITE was the first ship to pass Port Huron, March 26. The MATAAFA and T.J.McCARTHY were the first ships from De- troit to Cleveland, March 10. Swedish American's new RYHOLM is expected at Cleveland about May 14th. The ERHOLM (ex ERLAND) will come soon after. The "G" tug SUPERIOR fez RICHARD FITXGERALD) rammed Water St.bridge in Milwaukee when bridge lift power failed. Both bridge and tug were damaged. The Hanna freighters FINK and MUDGE opened Milwaukee harbor on March 28, with loads of coal from Lake Erie. The diesel "G" tug MASSACHUSETTS is expected here soon.
