SHIPS The new Canada Steamship Lines freighter SIR JAMES DUNN made her first trip early in May. The new Upper Lakes Line flagship JAMES NORRIS follwed her out in mid May. The PHILIP R.CLARKE is expected out near the end of May. Other new ships will follow in June and July. The MANCHESTER PIONEER arrived on the Lakes via Montreal April 29. Our picture was sent us by our fellow member, Mr.Ivan Brookes of Hamilton, and shows the ship there, May 7th. She was built last winter at Birken- head,England by Cammell*Laird. Her sister ship MANCHESTER EXPLORER will run her trials this month. The tanker PEGGY REINAUER (ex A.J.PATMORE, ex ROTARY, ex A.J.PATMORE, ex B.B.McCOLL, ex PULOE BRANI, ex H.M.S.SERVITOR) arrived at Detroit,5-5-52 on her way to Lake Michigan under command of Capt.Morgan Howell. This vessel was built at Chatham, England in 1914 as a collier for the Royal Navy. The new Bethlehem freighter SPARROWS POINT was launched at Sparrows Point, Md. on April 18th. The D.G.KERR was the first American ship through the Soo locks. she is only the third Pittsburgh ship to have that honor, and the oo since the whaleback JAMES B.NIELSON did it on April 30, 1923. The MICHAEL GAL: HER is now painted green and is being operated by Steel Products Steamship Co., a suBsidiary of the Midland fleet. The IMPERIAL WOODBEND is now in service for Imperial O0il1,Ltd. The tanker OTCO BAYWAY arrived in Detroit on her first visit to the Lakes, 5-7-52. The oil barge BARICK, in tow of the tug OILTRANSCO, arrived on the Lakes via Pt. Colborne on May 5th, for her first trip to these parts. The new freight- er of the Colonial Steamships, Ltd.,which is nearing completion at the Port Weller Drydock will be named JOHN O.McKELLAR. She is expected to be fleated out of the drydock in midsummer. The tug WILLIAM P.FEELEY of the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co.has been renamed MARTIN EH.BRENNAN. The present JOHN 0.McKELLAR of Colonial is to be re- named JPHN G.IRWIN, and the JOSEPH P.BURKE of the same fleet is now the ROBERT H.MARSHALL.
