The new canaller BAIE COMEAU, recently completed for the Quebec and Ontario paper fleet, at Plymouth, Wales, is now enroute to the Great Lakes. Her sister motorship, MANICOUAGAN, will arrive next spring. The CITY OF CLEVELAND III is being scrapped in WINDSOR. Mérritt, Chapnan & Scott, construction contractors, have purchased the former Columbia bulk mm freighter WOLVERINE (ex MICHAEL J.RARTELME, ex SIR HENRY BESSEMER, 1896), ‘Ww and will use her for equipment storage for the Mackinac Bridge work. She is presently anchored near St.Ignace. The new Boland and Cornelius self- unloader DETROIT EDISON (ii), was recently christened at Manitowoc. This vessel will be quite similar to the new JOHN J.BOLAND. No information on the rename of the former DETROIT EDISON (ex ADAM E.CORNELIUS (i)). As lay- ups continue to increase toward the end of the season, rumors also come indicating that we may see several of the older and smaller freighters re- tired or scrapped soon. No names mentioned.
