Operated by G & M until 1892 when demands had reqghired larger vessels. PURITAN was sold to Sey- mour Bros, @f Chi Cago and her place taken by the ill-fated CHICORA. In the Seymour Line and briefly in the Northern Michigan Transportation Co. PURITAN sailed between Chicago and Traverse Bay ports. Our illustration shows her in Seymour Line paintwork clearing the pierheads at Charlevoix. This good little propellor was totally destroyed by fire shortly after going into winter quar- ters at Manistee in the autumn of 1895. It will be used there as an amusement center until Labor Day. Two new canallers for Beaconsfield Steamships, Ltd. will be built at Port Weller. One will be called GRIFFIN. The RICHARD V.LINDABURY will be repowered next winter at the rouge yards. The Cliffs freighter J.H.SHEADLE (ex WM.G.MAEHER i) has been renamed H.L. GOBEILLE. The tug FLORIDA is at Great Lakes Towing's Cleveland yard for conversion to diesel drive. The Canadian tug HELENA of Hamilton capsized in the Calumet River at So.Chieggo in July. The COLUMBIA (ex FLORIDA, ex STATE OF NEW YORK, ex CITY OF MACKINAC i of 1883), floating clubhouse of the Columbia Y.C. burned and sank at Chicago on May 14th, but may be raised. Gayport Shipping has bought TEXACO CHIEF and renamed her FUEL TRANSPORTER. The LAKE TRAVERSE,a World War I U.S.Shipping Board "Laker" type freighter, built in 1918 at Duluth, and which sailed the Lakes between the two wars was wrecked by Stranding on a reef off me eed ai wr on July 6th.
