Our speaker will be our fellow member, Mr.F.Russell Blakeslee, who is an Architect by profession, end who for several years has been a member of the City Planning Conmission, and who is at present Coordinator of Oper- ations of the Civil Defense Dapartment. Mr.Blakeslee has also served as Chairman of Public Relations of the Propellor Club, Port of Detroit. His topic will be "The St.Lawrence Seaway," with special emphasis on its effect on shipping on the Great Lakes, and on the city and port of Datroit. Plan now to attend the October meeting. The November meeting will be held on the 23rd, Wednesday, and will be an illustrated program. Mark the date now. KOR KR KK OK OK KOK OK OK OK KK KOK OK OK KOK OK OK KOK OK KK OK KOK KK OK KK OK OK OK OK SHIPS The Wilson freighter B.F.JONES, damaged beyond repair in her collision with the CASON J.CALLAWAY in the Soo River in August, will be scrapped: The Canadian freighter PONOKA, formerly the iron package freighter LEHIGH J built at Wyandotte for the Anchor Line in 1880 is also being scrapped. The popular little passenger ship RAMONA on inland REED'S LAKE near Grand Rapids will not run after this season. The storage hull WOLVERINE (ex BARTELME, ex BESSEMER) buckled amidships at the Straits of Mackinac, where she is being use¢ on the bpidge project, and settled in shallow water. The package freighter DULUTH, previously reported as being scrapped on the north Pacific coast, has been sold to Japan for scrapping and arrived there in July. The Canadian ship GLENELG has had her self unloading equipment removed and is operating as a straight bulk freighter. The EDWARD N.SAUNDERS JR.ii(ex W.H.BECKER, ex ALEKIS W.THOMPSON) has been renamed ERNEST R.JOHNSON, and is now owned by Midwest Steamships, Inc. of Detroit. Canada SS Lines is planning another fast package freighter similar to the FORT HENRY, but with even more power in her. The MANICOUAGAN ii, newest unit of the Quebec & Ontario fleet has arrived on the Lakes from Plymouth Wales.
