Our speaker will be Father Dowling, whose topic will be: "Alexander McDougall, the Man and his Achievements." The first part of the program will be a discussion of some of the interesting facts about McDougall’; whalebacks, and after that will follow a 30 minute movie, a kinescope of one of Fr.Dowling's recent television prvograms,featuring the whaleback passenger steamer "Christopher Columbus." Plan now to attend this meeting. The concluding meeting of our present season will be held on Saturday afternoon and evening, June 9th at Fort Malden Museum in Amherstburg. Jack Goodrich will have a program of ship slides. Mark that date now. Through the "Marine Historian," our officers and fellow mem- bers extend most sincere sorrow and sympathy to those near and dear to the de- parted. May God grant them eternal rest. ORK OK OR OK OR OK OK KR OK KOK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK KOK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK KOK KK OK OK OK OK SHIPS Boland & Cornelius purchased an ocean going tanker of the T-2 type, which will be converted and lengthened on the coast, before being brought to the Lakes via the Mississippi early in 1957. Self unloading rig will be buil and installed at Manitowoc. The vessel is the ARCHERS HOPE (US 248326) built in 1945 at Mobile, 504 x 68. After lengthening she will be over 600' long. Capt Roen has acquired the WOLVERINE (ex MICHAEL J.BARTELME, ex SIR HENRY BES- SEMER) as well as the former lighthouse tender HYACINTH, and the motorship WEST WIND ¢ex AMARANTH). The tanker MAINE is now the FLEIADES. The JOHN C. WILLIAMS (ex EDWARD N.SAUNDERS,JR (i), ex ABRAHAM STEARN) has been renamed MICHAEL K.TEWKSBURY and the JOHN W.DAVIN (ex CHARLES 0.JENKINS) is now the MICHAEL GALLAGHER (ii). Interlake Steamship will build a new large ore carrier not unlike the GHORGE M.HUMPHREY this summer, which will be ready for service next season. Wilson Transit's Canadian subsiduary Wilcan Shipping, will operate in the auto trade between Windsor and the upper lakes, using the chartered LAKETON (ex SAXONA). The MYRON C.TAYLOR has been transferred fo the Bradley Transportation Line, and will be converted immediately into a self unloader. This year the Imperial tankers will have the words "Imperial Esso Products” painted on the takn sides, replacing the single word "Imperial" as used formerly. Despite a fairly early opening of the Soo (April 4th, by the J.E.F.MISENER and several others, persistent wintry weather has kept ore traffic rather low up to the time of printing. Several ships have been damaged by ice. The new Beaconsfield canaller motorship TECUMSEH is in service.
