A Typical "Pre Laker," the A.A.RAVEN SEK KKKE KR KR KEK KR KEKE KEKE KE KEK KKK KKK KK KKK KKK K The "Lakers" were canal size freighters of the "three island" design built in various American Great Lakes shipyards during and immediately af- ter World War I. They were intended for salt water and left the Lakes adhe] soon as they were delivered. A small number of them returned and t: on the Lakes until World War II when they again went to the ocean. As far back as 1911 Great Lakes yards had been building small ships both on foreign account and for American coastwise lines. About fifty of such were built up to 1916, close to thirty of which were of the "three island” type.
