Those of our Society who wish to have their dinner at the Boat Club will be welcome. However as a matter of convenience to the club manager, they are asked to inform Ken Smith at TO 6-4494, not later than Monday evening. We will have an illustrated program at this meeting, featured by two 30 minute movies, which are kinescopes of recent television programs from the Detroit Educational Television Foundation, given by Fr.Dowling. The two reels to be shown will describe the Lumber Ships of the Great Lakes and the ships and work of the Lighthouse Service. Plan now to attend. The November meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, the 2lst at the Detroit Historical Society Museum, Woodward at Kirby, and will feature a movie of the work of the U.S.Army, Corps of Engineers, on the Great Lakes. She is a canal sized motorship. The sandsucker MICHIGAN ( ex CHARLES M.WARNER) has been renamed LAKEWOOD, bg her new owners, Erie Sand Steamship Co. (DMH,vol.8, no.l1). Work is progressing at Sturgeon Bay on the conversion of MYRON C.TAY- LOR into a self-unloader. The first BIDE-A-WEE, for many years a tourist boat at the Soo, is now the despatch boat for the American Bridge Company at the Mackinac Straits Bridge, and is named BRIDGEBUILDER X. This vessel was originally the steam fish tug PITTSBURGH of the Booth fleet. The big tug SULPHITE (ex BALLEW) is back in service this summer, towing the Hindman pulp barges. TEESWOOD, newly built British vessel, which was a frequent visitor on the Lakes in the last couple of years, capsized in the recent storm on the English Channel.
