She commenced operating between Toronto & Pt.Dalhousie on Lake Ontario June 20, 1892, under the ownership of the St. Catharines, Grimsby & Toronto Navigation Co., managed by A.W.Hepburn of Pict- on and Capt.W.J.Wigle. The "Niagara Falls Line" as it was popularly known was later acquired by the McKenzie & Mann interests of Toronto and ownership of GARDEN CITY was transferred to a new operating company known as Niagara, St.Catharines & Toronto, Navigation Co.,Ltd. This concern eventually became part of the Canadian National Railways. GARDEN CITY continued on her origine, run for some 25 years until superceded by NORTHUMBERLAND (DMH vol.4 no.8 8). She later operated out of Toronto to Whitby, Newcastle and Pt.Hope on the north shore of Lake Ontario, and also to Olcott Beach, N.Y. before going to Montreal for service to King Edward Park. After lying idle at Montreal for many years she was sold in the mid 30's to Les Chantiers Manseau (Marine In- dustries, Ltd.), Sorel for scrapping. She was a very popular excursion ship and carried a beautiful three-part chimed whistle which was transferred to NORTHUMBERLAND when the latter entered Lake Ontario service.
