In Memoriam, CAPTAIN WILLIAM JAMES TAYLOR, 1882 - 1958 "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good: works and give glory to your Father in Heaven” (St.Matthew, V - 16) On January 16th our Society suffered the loss of one of its co-founders and most beloved fellow members, Capt.William J. Taylor, U.S.Lighthouse Service, retired. Throughout more than 30 years of arduous work in his professoio he labored for the welfare of his fellow men. Similarly, in our Society he was one who always sought ways to help. He lived truly for others. With our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs Taylor and to his son Dr.Taylor is also included our wish and prayer that this man who, both literally and figuratively, lighted the way for many others may be rewarded by God with rest in Eternal Light. "Brightly beams our Father's mercy from His lighthouse evermore But to us He gives the keeping Of the lights along the shore. Let the lower lights be burning send a gleam across the wave Some poor fainting, struggling seaman You may rescue, you may save.” KKK KK KK KKK KK KR KR KR KK KKK KKK KE KK KKK KKK KKK KY SHIPS The new freighter nearing completion at Toledo for Interlake Steam- ship Co. will be named JOHN SHERWIN. No information as yet as to what name the present JOHN SHERWIN will carry. At Port Weller Shipyards the new freighter for Upper Lakes & St.Lawrence Trans Co. has been named A SHERMAN. The barge LAKE HEMLOCK, formerly a "Laker" type freighter and later a barge in the Ford fleet, sank, Dec.13, six miles off Falkners Light on Long Island Sound while in tow of the tug PEGGY SHERIDAN. The new Wilson freighter recently completed at Montreal is named ALEXANDER T.WOOD. Rumors indicate that the old dredge JOHN R.EMERY (ex TRENTON) may be dieselized.
