Three large ore carriers, 715 x 75,are under construction at Collingwood, two for Carryore, Ltd., a Hanna subsid- jary, and one for Canada Steamship Lines, A medium sized tanker for Shell Oil is also due to be built at Collingwood. In order to make room for Interlake's new John Sherwin, now nearly completed at Toledo, the old JOHN SHERWIN has been renamed SATURN. This will be the third freighter with that name on the Lakes. The first, built in 1901, is now the ALGOSOO. The second, ex WALTER SCRANTON also of 1901, was scrapped about ten years ago. The craneship VENUS has been acquired by the T.J.McCarthy Steamship Company. The SHELTER BAY (ex NEW YORK NEWS i) has been acquired by Paterson and re- named NEWFOUNDOC. Two new units are nearing completion for the St.Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation - the tug ROBINSON BAY at S;urgeon Bay and the derrick barge GRASS RIVER at Buffalo. The former Great Lakes tanker POPLARBRANCH (ex SPRINGBANK PARK) is now the STRAITS CONVEYOR of Vancouver. the Icelandic freighter HEARUNGER (ex W.dJ.CONNERS, ex MAUCH CHUNK) has been sold for scrap. The former "Laker" LAKE FOREST (ex WAR FOX) has been 9 given its tenth name, KADIO S, flying the Greek flag. The N-3 type freight- é@r CALVIN COGGIN of 1943 has received its sixth name, CUBA. It flies the flag of Costa Rica. The ferry RANGER III for Isle Royale service is being completed at Sturgaon Bay. The stern half of the former package freighter KEARSARGE (See DMH, vol 11, no.5) has been rebuilt and will be named SABA- DASH II.
