AMERICA's first service was out of Chicago. In summers she ran excursions to Michigan City, Ind,, making a stop at Calumet Harbor, South Chicago, to pick up passengers from Chicago 's south side. Later on, around 1909, she was transferred to her owner's Lake Superior line, the United States and Dominion Transportation Co., for operation between Duluth and Port Arthur, She was lengthened to 182 feet in 1911 and her tonnage corres- pondingly increased to 681 gross and 478 net.
