Steel oil tanker built for the No. 139 British-American Oil Co., by Furness Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd., (HULL 199) at Haverton-Hill-on-Tees, Great Britain, in 1931. original name, the BRITAMOIL, was an abbreviated form of her owner's name. Her With dimensions of 258' in length,43'3" in beam and 18' in depth, her tonnage was 1931 gross and 1099 net. Powered by a 900-hp triple-expansion steam engine with cylinders 17"-28"-46" by 36" stroke, she had a speed of 9 knots. Steam was supplied by one oil-fired scotch marine boiler. Designed for service on the Great Lakes coastal areas, she traded between B-A of petroleum products and in later years was operated for Shipping, Ltd., and marine terminals, carrying a variety British-American by Gayport of Toronto. PEERLESS) was sold to Hall Corporation of Canada and at this time BRITAMOIL was re- named ISLAND TRANSPORT. She was operated by Hall until Dec. 17, 1960, at which time she went into winter layup at Port Weller, a layup that was to last 24 years. Then, in April of 1963, she was pur- chased by Messrs.
