Page 3 Vol. 1, No. 1, of this publication appeared in September, 1947. In August of 1958 Mr. Curtis Haseltine became its editor. Originally this publication came out in a single sheet in mimeograph form. Printing of the double sheet began Jan. 1950. We must not overlook the work of the secretaries of our organi- zation in those formative years, whose efforts did much to advance our cause. Mr. O'Brien, as first secretary, would use the medium of a handwritten or typewritten postcard to notify the handful of members of coming meetings. When Mr. Dancey became seéretary the membership had increased to a point where it was economical to use the medium of a printed letter. Then followed Mr. Larson. Mr. Robert Zeleznik became our secretary in July, 1949 and except fora term as President of the Society, has held the Secretaryship since that time, Since we are here primarily concerned with the childhood of our Organization, it will probably be of interest to know of our meet- ings during the first several years, the speakers and their sub- jects. Brown, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Detroit Edison Company, and president of the Arnold Transit Company, spoke on the subject "St. Ignace, Romantic Harbor of the North." The second banquet was held March 28, 1946 at the Edison Boat Club. The third annual banquet was May avs 1947 at the Prince Edward Hotel in Windsor, Ontario, followed the next year on April 28th, again at the Edison Boat Club. The Society's membership card, which has not been altered in form since its inception in 1946, bears a picture of the old White Star Line steamer "Tashmoo" whieh will be well remembered by De- troiters of a generation ago. She spent most of her time on the St. Clair River run to Port Huron, Mich., and her picture was adop= ted as the Society's emblem. This was at the urgency of Mr. O'Brien
