Walton BUILT BY Port Weller Dry Docks (HULL 41) to the order of Upper Lakes Shipping, Ltd. A self-unloader designed for the Great Lakes trade, the CANADIAN CENTURY measures 730' (OA) x 75' x 45'. Gross tonnage is 20,343, net tonnage 14,529. Powered by a 7500-shp Burmeister & Wain diesel engine, she has a service speed of 14 mph. The main en- gine is controlled from the wheelhouse through a variable pitch pro- peller. A 1000-hp bowthruster has been fitted for use in restricted channels. Rated as the largest capacity self-unloader on the Lakes, she has only one cargo hold. Cargo is discharged over a 250' boom at the rate of 4,000 tons per hour. Main trade route is between Con- neaut and Ontario Hydro generating stations on Lake Ontario. Paul Sherlock
