(HULL #189) to the order of Algoma Central Railway. On June 6, 1967, the keel laying took place and on December 19 the ship was launched. Christening was performed at Collingwood on April 1, 1968. Principal dimensions are as follows: O.A.L. 640'5"; beam 72'; depth 40'; gross tonnage 16,157; net tonnage 11,114. A self-unloader, she has a capacity of 23,270 long tons. Cargo is discharged over a 250' boom at the rate of 4200 tons per hour. The main propulsion system con- sists of four Fairbanks-Morse opposed-piston diesel engines developing a total of 8664 H.P. The engines are connected, through a reduction gear, to a Ka-Me-Wa variable-pitch propeller. A 600 H.P. Ka-Me-Wa bow thruster has been fitted to assist in controlling the ship in confined areas.
