CGS The LoG S&S SCRAPS Since the opening of navigation this spring, a record number of Lakers have moved a step closer to the scrapyard: #ALGOCEN (a. JOHN J. BARLUM) was sold by Algoma to Steel Factors. She was down at Detroit under her own power on May 14 with a load of salt. She went on down ie Seaway and on June 17 the German tug was observed at Levis Pusnaaaeed Sonne to make up a tow of ALGOC and HILLSDALE. #BLUE RIVER (a. REDCHIEF) was sold by Upper Lakes to United Metals on Apr. 9. She was towed out of Toronto and into Hamilton on May 2. At last report she and GLENBOGIE were lying untouched at the same dock at which JOHN ERICSSON re- cently met her fate. #BRICOLDOC (a. JAMES H. HOYT) was sold by Paterson to Steel Factors. She was towed out of Toronto by GRAEME STEWART on June 21. She stopped at Kingston and will resume her trip overseas now that the Seaway strike is settled. #PELKOTE (a. CARRINGTON; b. CORDOVA) and #SWEDEROPE (a. SIDNEY G. THOMAS), sold by Hindman last fall and laid up for the winter in Buffalo, were towed into Mar- ine Salvage's Ramen's Bend (Port Col- borne) scrapyard on June 14 by the tugs G.W. ROGERS and SALVAGE MONARCH. #EVERETTON (a. M. A. BRADLEY; b. GRAHAM C. WOODRUFF; c. FRED L. HEWITT) had her- self quite a spring. She fitted out on schedule but on April 11 she was slight- ly damaged when a fender-boom was acci- dentally lowered on her in the Welland. On April 25 she grounded in the St.Clair River but got off without major damage. Finally she was sold to Marine Salvage and at last report was at Lauzon await- ing a tow across. If we are correct, the passing of this boat erases the last trace of Captain Alva Bradley's fleet, once the Jargest on the Lakes. #GASPEDOC (a. LST 885), sold to Steel Factors last fall, was reported at Lau- zon in mid-June awaiting a trip abroad. #LEONARD C. HANNA, after spending almost @ year at the Ramey's Bend scrapyard, . ROGERS and SALVAGE MON- ARCH and later passed down the Seaway. #"HILLSDALE (a. CALDERA; b. A. T. KINNEY) was sold by Winona Steamships (Reoch) to Steel Factors. She left Toronto un- der her own power on May 18. On June 17 the German tug BREMEN was observed making up a tow at Levis that was ap- parently to consist of HILLSDALE and ALGOCEN. #BLANCHE HINDMAN (a. THEODORE H. WICK- WIRE; ». HARRY YATES) was sold to Steel Factors. She passed down at Detroit under her own power, with a salt cargo, on May 6. She left Quebec behind the German tug ROTERSAND on May 21. The other half of the tow was the former East Coast passenger steamer Florida which had been used as a floating hotel at Montreal last year. #R. O. PETMAN (a. E. B. OSLER; b. OSLER) was sold to Marine Salvage. We are not sure how she got from Kingston to Que- bec but she left Lauzon, along with S00- DOC, behind the Polish tug JANTAR on the monrane of May 2) #CAPTAIN C. D. SECORD (a. CHARLES R.VAN HISE; »b. A.E.R. SCHNEIDER; c. S.B. WAY) was sold by Mohawk to Steel Factors. We have been unable to learn if she has been moved from Prescott. #sooD0c (a. MOSES TAYLOR), sold to Mar- ine Salvage last fall, was towed out of Hamilton and down the Seaway on May 20 IN. . she left Lauzon, along with R.O. PETMAN, behind the tug JANTAR. #WIND . M.A. HANNA; b. HYDRUS) sold last fall to Marine Salvage, was towed out of Toronto by GRAEME STEWART on June 18 and down the Seaway by SALVAGE MONARCH. At last reports she is still at Lauzon. The veteran steam tug G. R. GEARY is be- ing scrapped at Toronto. A published report indicates that BAY- QUINTE (a. FRANK C. OSBORN; b. BAYFAX) is now owned by Marine Salvage, Ltd. At Duluth, scrapping operations have be- gun on GEORGE HINDMAN (a. WILLIAM CRAWFORD; b. BAIRD TEWKSBURY) and almost been completed on SULLIVAN BROTHERS (a. JOSEPH WOOD). By mid-June, the barge CONSTITUTION was almost. completely scrapped at Ramey's Bend. > A a
