Fraser Shipyard Sold The famed Fraser Shipyards, Inc. of Superior, Wis., has been sold to the LST Corp., of Cleveland for an undisclosed price. Making the announcement were Robert M. Fraser, head of the shipyard for the last 14 years, and Robert H. Lucas, president of the new cor- poration. Also included in the sale is Northern ‘“ngineering Works, Inc., with the same stock ownership as the shipyard. Incas was until recently general manager of U. S. Steel's Great Lakes Fleet. He is associated in the new corporation with John G. Souris and Carlton E. Tripp, who are naval architects associated in the design of U. S. and Cana- dian Great Lakes vessels as well as deep sea vessels for cons- truction here and overseas. Present yard personnel is to be retained and the operation will continue under the Fraser name. Seems like only yesterday it was the Fraser-Nelson Shipyard. The announcement that lucas had left the U.S. Steel post to head the corporation taking over the Fraser Shipyard was followed by announcement of his successor as general manager of the U.S.Steel Fleet. That appointment has gone to Capt. Joseph J. Parrilla who has been manager of operations of the Great Lakes Fleet. Before that he was fleet manager of the Bradley Transportation Fleet of U. S. Steel's Michigan Limestone Division. Parrilla came to the Lakes from saltwater service with U.S.Steel and Tri-Coast Steamship Co., but his career started with U. S. Steel's former Isthmian Fleet as able-bodied seaman, progressing through the ratings until he be- came Master. He was marine sup- erintendent at Isthmian when the fleet was sold in 1956. The U.S. Lake Survey's new Depu- ty District Engineer is a Great Lakes native son. Maj. James B. Hall is the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Hall of Port Huron, and he is co-author of a paper on "Cir- culation and MThermocline Deve- lopment in a Rotating Lake Mod- el," published in 1964 by the Great Lakes Research Division of the University of Michigan. But he has been around a lot of oth- er places -- including a year he just finished in Vietnam anda tour of duty in Korea. Bob Zeleznik caught the JOHN FRITZ downbound in the Welland Canal ©
