The Detroit Marine Historian © Journal of Marine Historical Society of Detroit Volume 22, No. 10 June, 1969 TADOUSSAC LAUNCHING Photo by Bill Wilson DEATH RODE the ways when Canada Steamship Lines’ new self-unloader TADOUSSAC launched herself 15 minutes prematurely at Collingwood on May 29. Two shipyard workers, caught underneath while still pounding wedges, were killed and several others were injured. The tragedy, coupled with a rumor that Collship may be out of business soon, cast a pall over this Georgian Bay city where generations of shipbuilders have carried on a tradition of fine craftsmanship. Despite the unex- pected launch, fellow member Bill Wilson was not caught unprepared.
