© The Scrap-pile It appears that the overseas mevement of old Lake boats for scrapping has resumed for the season. While it is believed that a number of tows have already departed Quebec, exact details and dates are lacking. Here are the facts on boats known to be scheduled to move to European scrapyards this year: ASHCROFT (a. GLENIFFER) was in service early this spring but on June 14 she was downbound at the Soo with a grain cargo for the lower St.Lawrence. Detroit on her one-way trip on June 16 She passed C.A.BENNETT (a. B.F.BERRY: b. BERRYTON; c. VISCOUNT BENNETT) is owned by Marine Salvage. She wintered on the lower St.Lawrence, probably at Sorel. BUCKEYE (a. DAVID M. WHITNEY; b. EDWIN L. BOOTH: c. G.N.WILSON; d. THOMAS BRITT) is owned by Steel Factors and wintered at Kingston. DONNACONA (a. W. GRANT MORDEN) was downbound at Detroit under her own power on June 12 and was down the Welland the following day, on a one-way trip. GOUDREAU (a. MICHIGAN) was down the Welland under her own power on May 19 on a one-way trip. She is owned by Steel Factors. HOWARD M. HANNA, JR. was towed down the Seaway last Nov. 21 by the tugs GRAEME STEWART and HELEN McALLISTER. She apparently wintered in Quebec. HUMBERDOC (a. NORFOLK) wintered in Kingston. She is owned by Marine Salvage. LEMOYNE (a. GLENMOHR) passed downbound at Iroquois Lock on May 29 under her ower. She is owned by Steel Factors. Built in 1926, the 633-ft. LEMOYNE is the newest and largest Laker ever to go for scrap. MANITOBA (a. VERONA; b. HENRY STEINBRENNER: c. URLMANN BROTHERS) arrived at Detroit to load scrap on June 2 and was down the Welland under her own power on June 5. She reportedly is owned. by Commercial Metals of Texas. MIDLAND PRINCE wintered at Kingston and was reported at Sorel on May 28. SIR THOMAS SHAUGHNESSY operated in regular service early this season. But she has been sold to Steel Factors and was down the Seaway under her own power on May 22. She was still at Quebec on June 3. FRANK E. TAPLIN (a. CHARLES W. KOTCHER) was towed down the Welland by the tugs G.W. ROGERS and SALVAGE MONARCH last Nov. 27. She was still reported at Quebec on June 3. She is owned by Steel Factors. BEN E. TATE (a. PANAY; b.
