Here is the scene, thanks to Paul Crocker, of Niles, as the SUPERIOR swung the bow of the C&O carferry CITY OF FLINT 32 from her berth at Ludington for the start of the long tow to Detroit. She arrived at Nicholson's safely and work began immediately on cutting her down to a barge to join Norfolk & Western's ex-carferries WINDSOR and DET- ROIT as a railroad barge ferry across the Detroit River, pushed by former river towboats. Latest word is that CITY OF FLINT will be set to take on her new job about the middle of June and that she will keep her present name. Now N&W is looking for another towboat. Paul got this photo from Russ Miller Jr., who took it for the Ludington Daily News, shooting from the deck of the PERE MARQUETTE 22.
