HONOR FORA FRIEND Captain Hamilton named "Historian of the Year" A deserved honor comes to Capt. Frank Hamilton | apt. Frank i. Hamilton, designated by the Marine Historical Society of Detroit as "Marine Historian of the Year," is shown as he received the plaque from former president Dave Glick who went to Capt. Hamilton's home on Kelleys Island with Jim Dziak and Gordon Wendt for the presentation. Much of Capt. Hamilton's knowledge of mar- ine history comes from the fact he lived it. Former skipper of the old PUT-IN-BAY, he served as master of many other vessels, particularly in the western end of Lake Erie, and over the years has watched them come and go. Born on Kelleys Island, his mother was a Kelley of the family that gave the island its name. A few years ago the Peninsular News of Marblehead, O., ran a series of articles by Capt. Hamilton on some of the interesting boats that have plied Lake Erie's waters. He has sup- plied many articles and bits of information to Inland Seas as well as our own Detroit Marine Historian and numerous other publications. aan 1970-1971 Officers President R.
