The Detroit Marine Historian Journal of Marine Historical Society of Detroit Volume 25, No. 8 13951 Faust, Detroit, Michigan 48223 April, 1972 ibe! A wont be long now aN long with the first jonquils, workmen went aboard the Bob-Lo d steamers COLUMBIA and STE. CLAIRE to make them shipshape and RIES Bristol fashion for the coming season - sparkling like the STE. CLAIRE in this photo. The Bob-Lo season opens on Saturday, May 2?, this year and in addition to the usual runs to Bob-Lo Island off Amherstburg in the lower Detroit River, the COLUMBIA will make two of the special trips from Detroit to Port Huron, across Lake St. Clair, through the famed St. Clair Flats, once known as the "Venice of America" and up the St. Clair River to within sight of the Blue Water Bridge. But wherever they go, the Bob-Lo boats are fun and passengers are fascinated by the gleaming brass and steel triple-expansion steam engines that drive them at a lively clip.
